Faculty and staff are encouraged to nominate deserving students at all academic levels for various awards administered each year by the vice president for student affairs. The Student Leadership and Humanitarian Awards criteria and nomination processes are listed on the Dean of Students Office. The SUNY Chancellor's Award and The President's Medal are announced by the Student Life Office.
Academic departments and program units present their awards and recognition to students throughout the year and typically at the close of the spring semester. Departments inform their faculty of their nomination and selection processes, and all faculty and staff are encouraged to nominate deserving students.
The names and awards of graduating seniors and graduate students are listed each May in the commencement booklet. The Academic Affairs Office notifies the campus community during the fall semetser with the February/March deadline to submit their qualifiying departmental awards for inclusion in the booklet.
